RIGBY LIONS CLUB

The Rigby Lions Club was chartered in March of 1928. It, like all Lions Clubs, was formed to make our community a better place in which to live through SERVICE. Our club has dedicated over 70 years to serving not only the community of Rigby, but the communities of Idaho, the United States and the world--because we are a part of those communities as well. Our service does not stop at the city limits. In LIONISM, we are not affiliated with partisan politics nor sectarian religion, but are rather, men and women with a common bond of desire to provide service to humanity regardless of race, creed, color, sex, or age.

Our motto is "WE SERVE"

Our slogan is an anagram of LIONS,

Liberty,
Intelligence,
Our
Nations
Safety.

SOME OF THE SERVICE PROJECTS THAT THE RIGBY CLUB HAS PARTICIPATED IN THROUGH THE YEARS ARE:

1. Yearly eye screening of students in the schools in and around Rigby.
2. Purchase of eye glasses and/or hearing aids for those who need financial assistance.
3. Sponsoring Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts
4. Beautification of downtown Rigby (at one time we installed three drinking fountains on Main Street.)
5. Purchased a drug dog for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.
6. Beautification of on/off ramps into Rigby.
7. Assisting at the High School Rodeo.
8. Assisting at the Jefferson County Stampede.
9. Splitting wood for the elderly and /or handicapped.
10. Cleaning our two miles of highway twice a year.
11. Building specially designed playground equipment for the special education children.
12. Sponsoring of horseback riding lessons for a handicapped youth.
13. Sponsoring Girl's state participants
14. Helping at the annual International Dance Festival in Rexburg.
15. Helping at the LIONS' Booth at the Eastern Idaho State Fair in Blackfoot.
16.Annual support for the Idaho/Eastern Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. This LIONS Foundation owns and operates the only "eye bank" in Idaho.
17. Support for Leader Dogs For The Blind
18. And many, many more. Financing of these projects comes from fund raising efforts such as our annual 4th of July Breakfast, quilt raffles, and the Candlearia sales at Christmas.

All monies raised from the community MUST go back to the community. NO MONIES RAISED FROM THE COMMUNITY ARE SPENT ON LIONS FUNCTIONS.

Monies spent on Lions comes from the Lions themselves through dues, tail twisting, donations, etc. Our Rigby Lions Club is one of the most active clubs in our District. Our members are caring, innovative and creative. We are proud to boast of having had three District Governors from our club:

Lion Dr. Aldon Tall (1945-46)
Lion DeWayne Hodges (1992-93)
Lion Gayle Hodges (1994-95)

Lion Gayle was the first female, in Idaho, to join the Lions when women were allowed to join in 1987. She was also the first female Lion, in Idaho, to serve as District Governor, and also to be elected to the Multiple District Council Chairman position.

IT'S GREAT TO BE A LION, WE WANT YOU TO JOIN WITH US, IN SERVICE TO OUR COMMUNITY!

STRUCTURE

As in any organization, Lions Clubs International has levels of structure and responsibility. First and foremost, the structure begins with the individual Lion members. Without members there is no Lions International.

a. Individual member -- people like you and me)

b. Local club officers -- elected by the individual members.

c. Zone-- formed by 4 or more adjoining Lions clubs. -- overseen by a Zone Chairman who is appointed by the District Governor. (D. G.)

d. Region--comprised of two or more Zones. -- overseen by a Region chairman who is appointed by the D. G.

e. District--All the Lions Clubs within certain boundaries ie Southeast Idaho. -- overseen by the District Governor who is elected by the individual members, the Vice D.G. who is also elected by the individual members, and the District Cabinet Chairmen who are appointed by the D. G.

f. Lions Clubs International.

DUES

When accepting an invitation to join the Rigby Lions Club, you will be required to pay a ONE TIME INITIATION FEE of $25.00. If a man and wife join at the same time the $25.00 pays for both of them. This fee is forwarded to Lions International to get you established in the system.

We also have dues. These go to pay for local club expenses, District per capita dues, and Lions International per capita dues. The Rigby Club generally collects dues on a quarterly basis ie July 1, Sept.1, Jan.1, Apr.1. The Rigby Club charges $45.00 a quarter, which includes the costs of two meals a month in addition to the dues. Should this be a problem we can work with you to make your joining this great club as easy as possible.

MEETINGS

The Rigby Lions normally meet the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. At present we meet at the Senior Citizens Center. If a meeting date is changed you will receive notification. Although it is not mandatory that you attend meetings it is to your benefit to do so. You will join in fellowship with your fellow Lions. Feel free to socialize and/or network with those of similar interests.

Your input into present or future projects will be solicited. We try to have an informative and/or entertaining program at every meeting so you will come away feeling your time was well spent. And there are various ways in which we can help you achieve your personal goals.

Our projects are as diversified as the many members we have in our club as you could tell from the few we told you about earlier. Perhaps you have noticed something that needs to be done in the community. We value your suggestions, expertise, support, and participation at whatever level you can contribute.

Nothing is impossible when we have people like you. We hope you will accept our invitation of membership in the Rigby Lions Club. Your name added to our membership roster is sure to be a valuable asset.
